Doing Good

The goal of this DOING GOOD section is to showcase good things that I am lucky enough to be part of. I hope there is some inspiration or happiness that you see here.

Your talent is God’s gift to you; what you do with it is your gift to God.” -Leo Buscaglia

This past fall I began teaching as an adjunct professor at Harper College. They asked me to teach Advanced Graphic Design and Graphic Design Portfolio Development as evening classes. Working with students that have a passion for design, truly fills up my happiness bucket. Teaching has been something I have thought of doing over the years but never dreamt that I would be able to do it and continue my day job. It is beyond joyful to watch talent grow and see students launch into their careers. If you are ever in need of a graphic design intern, please let me know.

Here is a video that Agnes Arnaiz created, she is an incredibly talented student who I was lucky enough to have in my class. The video showcases her physical portfolio that was created in the Portfolio Development Class at Harper College.

I absolutely LOVE being a college student mentor! Over the past few years, I have mentored 8 students. Lisa, Cece, Grace, Jessica, Zack, Megan, Molly and Tori. We have weekly calls about graphic design, portfolios, resume writing, making contacts in the industry and getting a job as a graphic designer.

Carthage College has been incredibly kind to me. As well as being a mentor, I was asked to speak in Professor Huaracha’s Senior Graphic Design class about packaging and making it as a self employed designer. Overjoyed!

4 women and myself started the Northwest Suburban Chicago Chapter of 100 Women Who Care. This is a collective giving organization that does good locally. I am proud to be a part of this and was thrilled to create the logo.

My customer gave me a duck. Yes it is true, Advanced Events was kind enough to write the loveliest card and generous enough to help those in need. To learn more about the organization they choose to support this holiday season please visit www.oxfamgifts.com

In 2015, I was voted #1 Graphic Designer by Thumbtack. Kind of cool. Much thanks to my customers who were kind enough to take the time to write a review. To see me on Thumbtack, please visit: www.thumbtack.com/il/chicago/designers/#

To the right is the book that was made for our church youth group’s mission trip. It shows our church members doing good things at Redbird Mission.
